Biznik for Networking

Believe it or not, networking really can be fun! If you haven't yet given biznik a whirl, go ahead, you may just become somewhat addicted!

I have met some wonderful folks there and actually set up meetings for conversations over coffee. What a great tool to get connected with those near and far.

After you sign up (no cost unless you want an upgraded membership), find me, or let me know you are there and I'll find you :) www.biznik.com

Prepared for 2009?

During these slower, relaxed times near the holidays, it's a great time to do some planning for the new year. Well some of you may be running around like crazy people near the holidays, not us! We're snowed in and I'm loving it!

So my thoughts are now turning to planning to grow in the new year, again personally and professionally, how about you? Here's one of my favorite quotes, perhaps it will give you a boost too:

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.

Seasons Greetings!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

This is the view from my home office :)

I prefer this view to four stark white walls, or a fabric covered cubicle, don't you?

As the snow continues to fall here, I wanted to extend my warm wishes for a happy holiday season to you and yours. It looks as if we may just get our white Christmas this year!

Have You Been Told You Are Over-Qualified?

I hear this from time to time from clients that come to me for a resume makeover. Potential employers actually tell them, "Sorry, you are over-qualified for this position."

Are these employers nuts? Don't they realize that when they hire a highly-qualified candidate they benefit from:
  • hiring an employee that doesn't require the time and expense associated with training
  • hiring an employee that will not require micro-managing
  • hiring an employee that can, and will, hit the ground running
So what do you suppose the real reason is behind an employer turning down a highly-qualified candidate? I suspect it has something to do with the enjoyment of micro-managing by some employers...what do you think?

Jeepers Watch Out For Office Creepers!

One more thing to worry about in the workplace...Office Creepers! This is actually a new term to me, I suppose that is a blessing.

This morning on TV I heard about how these sneaky individuals (creepers), follow unsuspecting employees into office buildings and then proceed to help themselves to:
  • Laptops
  • Purses
  • Wallets
  • Plus anything else of value they can pocket or carry quickly out of the building, undetected!
There was even mention of an identity theft case that came from this type of crime. Wow! Have you heard of this before? Have you been a victim of this creepy crime?

Need to Collaborate?

I have a cool tool to share and you can give it a whirl for free! I think you'll find working virtually is easier when your documents are securely stored online for easy access, and where each member of your team (if you have a team) can get to them.
I recommend Central Desktop for Collaboration
